Back to School: Cloth Diapering 101
Prefolds
• pre-folded layers of cotton sewn into a rectangular shape looks like a dish towel or burping cloth that is thicker for absorbency.
• Use with traditional diaper pins or fasteners called “snappies”
• Must be folded to fit baby’s bottom and waist. Not a “fitted”
• Must be used in tandem with a diaper cover to prevent leakage
• Can be used as an added liner for nighttime.
• Closest to old school diapering usually white or unbleached in color
• Most economical
“Fitteds”
• One of more recent advancements in cloth diapering
• Looks like the more familiar hour-glass shape made popular by disposable diapers
• Has built-in adjustable side snaps for closure that grows with baby; no need to use pins or fasteners
• Has gathered sides for a fitted effect around legs to prevent leakage
• Has either a sewn-in liner or built-in pocket interior that can accommodate inserted cloth liners/pre-folds for absorbency
• Must be used in tandem with a diaper cover to prevent leakage
• Available in a variety of colors and fun patterns
• Varieties of fabric include cotton, terry, velour, hemp, organic
Fitted “All in One”- the most convenient of cloth diapering
• All of the above features of “fitteds”
• Has a built in cover which makes the diaper more close fitting and less-bulky than using a traditional **nylon or plastic** diaper cover.
