Opportunity knocks on a front stoop

At a local street fair, I noticed a young mom, who had found a semi-secluded spot off the beaten path, nursing her daughter. I was compelled to go and sit next to her, which I did. I introduced myself and asked her if she’d like some company. She smiled and said that would be nice. We picked up a conversation and, I believe, we both enjoyed the moment. We also found that we had much in common—especially the belief that public opinion should be more positive concerning women breastfeeding their babies. We are hoping to meet again soon at our neighborhood park.

To my Amelia, on her upcoming second birthday.

No kind action ever stops with itself. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves.

On Breastfeeding

The newborn baby has only three demands: warmth in the arms of this mother, food from her breasts, and security in the knowledge of her presence. Breastfeeding satisfies all three.

For the young at heart

“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder without any such gift from the fairies, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in” -Rachel Carson

a mother’s love

Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible.
